I spent my teenage years in the Netherlands, close by Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a truly unique city, and there is so much more to do than the stereotype suggests. Here are my top 3 things to do in Amsterdam…
Visit Water Kant
Water Kant is a hidden bar and restaurant on the canal. You can drink tasty beer by the water or head to the inside to eat delicious Surinamese food. You will notice waiters and bartenders here open the conversation in Dutch, which is because this is not a tourist hotspot. If you want the ‘real’ Amsterdam, this is the place to go!
Rent Bikes & Cycle Round Vondelpark
Vondelpark is beautiful. It has amazing ponds, a children’s park, and quirky cafes. There are normally talented musicians playing for free or street performers dancing for your entertainment. By renting a bike to cycle round this park, you can see all Vondelpark has to offer the Dutch way.
Hit Up Chupitos Shot Bar
Packed inside a tiny room, you will find hundreds of types of drinks – from flaming shots to regular beers. To sum it up, it is just a great atmosphere for partying and, for Amsterdam, it is pretty cheap.
